Project Scope:

Project scope is the work performed in doing the project in order to deliver product, result with specified features and functions and service. Requirements is the major focus in any project so business analyst and project manager works together to identify the business needs, determine problems ,recommend possible solutions for meeting the needs , elicit the requirement , document the requirement , manage stakeholder requirement and both have to facilitate towards the successful implementation of the project .

Business Analyst role in Project scope management:

Business analyst plays a major role in project and enable the project to achieve goal, In any project BA will define the project, manage the project and control the requirements of the project.

Project manager role in project scope management:

Project manager is a professional player having a lead role in the phase of project management, A project manager follows a method and spends enough time in defining the project and determine available resources. Project manager will develop a plan to encourage team to work with full potential and communicate with team consistently. Project manager also set realistic deadlines to the project, monitors the entire project and control cost in project.

Project scope management is first thing to do as a part of project because we need to understand what is output of the project to be delivered.

Project scope management processes are:

  • Plan scope management – Planning overall approach when collecting the requirements from customer.
  • Collect requirements- Gather requirements from the customer
  • Define scope – Define the functions and features of project.
  • Create WBS – Making work break down structure in developing project schedule, WBS creates basis for planning, managing the project schedule, budget, request for any change from plan.

Project scope management consists of input with tools and techniques and output with accepted deliverables. Project scope management include following documents

Input: Project contract or agreement between organization, expert advice from subject matter expert and information from project beneficiaries.

Process: Plan project scope, assigning work to people, verifying work accomplished, update scope from authorized changes.

Output: Project scope statement, work breakdown structure and scope change control plan.

  • Project delivered on time
  • Project delivered within scope, within budget
  • Understand deliverables of project
  • During the project helps in decision making
  • Helps to identify risks and plans steps to mitigate

The purpose of project scope management is to minimize scope creep for all projects, from project scope we create the activity and work towards the activities to happen and create project deliverables once the project deliverables are created, we need to validate with project scope so the customer need to say right specifications are considered and accepting these deliverables. After acceptance from customer also we need to control scope so we need to make sure that it stays on track to accept change request as noted in our change management plan and those are all processes of project scope management .
