Business Rules and Business requirements are both essential parts of the documentation process – BRD & FRD. These are frequently confused by beginners to mean one and the same thing, but there are fundamental differences in both.
Business Rules – This outlines all the business conditions, requirements or criteria for completing certain tasks. These tell us what can or cannot be done in certain situations. Ex: Sales person will get commissions at 2% of the sales revenue at the end of the month.
Business Requirements – These are the things that need to be done to complete a project. These details encompass the reason or objectives for a particular project.
